Throughout the summer season Central Finland´s festivals showcase
a wide range of music, folk tradition, jazz and rarely encountered
skiffle. When summer is at its most beautiful, the core of Finnish
longing, the melancholy tango, fills the open-air dance pavilions.
Finland's oldest and even today most modern arts festival - Jyväskylän
Kesä - has served as a model for hundreds of other cultural events
in the Nordic countries.
The biggest annual motor sport event in the Nordic countries, Neste
Rally Finland, is also a round of the World Rally Championship. The
rally's bubbling international atmosphere takes Central Finland firmly
in its grip. This high-speed August event attracts over three hundred
thousand rally fans from around the world as the top drivers fight
it out on tough sand and gravel stages.
