BEVERAGES |
Alko is a nationwide network of liquor stores with virtual monopoly
to sell alcohol. Beer and ciders are sold also in grocery stores.
The Alko stores are open, depending on the store, from Monday to Friday
9 am - 8 pm, on Saturdays 9 am - 6 pm. All stores are closed on Sundays,
religious feast days, on Christmas Eve and Easter Saturday. |

Jyväskylä's favourite son, the architect Alvar Aalto, is
widely regarded as one of the great innovators in western architecture.
The Alvar Aalto Museum and the numerous buildings designed by Aalto
constantly bring to Jyväskylä professionals and amateurs
in the field of architecture from all over the world. |

In the Jyväskylä region you can travel by local busses by
using an ordinary tickets or Jyväskylä Travel Card. Jyväskylä

MONEY |
Foreign currencyh can be changed at banks Mon-Fri 10-16.30. Credit
cards (Visa, Eurocard, Mastercard, Cirrus, EC) can be used to withdraw
cash from cash dispencer with SOLO symbol. |

 CRUISING
ON THE LAKES |
Lake traffic is maintained by comfortable lake steamers and motor
vessels. In Central Finland there is a wide choice of routes and cruises.
The cruise can be a few hours' pleasure excursion or a one-day excursion
in Lake Päijänne. Among the most popular routes are the
excursions of Elias Lönnrot between Keuruu and Mänttä
and a cruise between Jyväskylä and Lahti on Lake Päijänne.
Cruises along the Keitele-Päijänne Canal take visitors from
Jyväskylä northwards to Laukaa and Suolahti and on as far
as Viitasaari. |

Persons arriving in Finland from the Nordic Countries and EU countries
do not need a passport, however some identification, e.g. an identity

The tourist can enjoy a sauna at most hotels, motels, holiday villages
and camping sites, where there are separate saunas for men and women.
Some hotel saunas are also open to non-residents.
Muurame Sauna Village provides a unique overview of the sauna tradition
in Finland. The area contains 30 smoke saunas from various parts of
the country as well as a magnificent exhibition of sauna culture.

Retail shops are allowed to be open from Monday to Friday 7 am - 9
pm and on Saturdays 7 am - 6 pm. Smaller grocery stores may be open
also on Sundays 12 am - 9 pm. Other retail outlets may be open on
Sundays in May, June, July and August and also in November and December
12 am - 9 pm. At other times they are closed on Sundays. |
